Poem after César Valejo

Because today is where
Everything breaks my heart
I will prepare
Better for tomorrow
With a yellow cup and a blue
Saucer because
Today everything beautiful shows
Some skin and a glimpse of lace is
Sadness

Because today I am forced
To face, with my skull
Where my heart was,
To face life full
“And god knows where it’s off too?”
On the razor of love
“I say good riddance”

“Wait!” Before you start
the condolences
My corner eye spies
Grief and joy
Hand in hand
Skip and sing
the nursery rhyme
Gratitude

About vsvevg

Hello, I'm Abby Smith. I started this blog in 2010 to write about the pursuit of a self-sustainable life in rural Mexico. In 2015, my then-husband and I moved to Nicaragua, where we created a successful farm-to-table and in-house charcuterie program for a high-end beach resort. In 2022, with mad butchery and cheese-making skills under my belt, I started a sustainable food systems consulting business. Happily, I also have more time for my first love-- writing about food and the complexities of the simple life.

  1. Abbey, I love Cesar Vallejo. I love his poem in which he says he is going to die on a Thursday in Paris in a rainstorm, and he in fact did die in Paris on a Thursday, I don’t know how the weather was. We hope to see you soon.

    • Oh yes! and he put his arm bones on wrong, and everyone beat him with a rope and sticks though he never did anything to them!! that’s the one I was reading that day. I love him too. besos a
