When I was a little girl my grandmother recited and read poetry to me. I have her to thank for my love of poetry. Today for her 90th birthday, I recite my favorite from her repertoire, The Owl and the Pussycat, by Edward Lear.
I love you Grandma, thank you for the gift of poetry…and the chocolate pudding, and all the wonderful philosophical conversations. If only they’d ask us 🙂
This ids one of my favourite poems. I memorized it and recited it to my kids many times. I also tried to memorize Winken, Blinken and Nod, but couldn’t. I still find myself repeating it, thirty years later.
What a lovely coincidence! Winken, Blinken and Nod was my other favorite. Grandma always read that one, I remember looking at the pictures as she read. Thank you for visting, paz, Abby
Abby, This has been a favorite of mine for now so many years. In fact I bought a celosia with moon and an owl carved into it so the pussycats here could sit upon it to watch the what is happening in the garden. Once again, thank you for sharing and happy birthday to your Grandmother also.
